Animal-loving Oklahomans are able to celebrate an incredible achievement—the passage of a bill that will allow the purchase of an Animal Friendly license plate as well as a check-off box on our Oklahoma state income taxes designated for a Pet Overpopulation Fund. No other state has been able accomplish passing BOTH of these statutes.
The cost of the plate is $35, and $20 of that will go into an Overpopulation Fund. The funds generated will be used for a statewide spay/neuter voucher program for low-income pet owners. Close to half of all the states have a similar tag and program and have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. The result has been a large decrease in the number of animals that must be euthanized at shelters in those states.
